Bone abnormalities

Bone can show any of the classic elemental abnormalities in size, shape, symmetry, density, and integrity. Air-fluid levels are frequent abnormalities in cranial sinuses. Lesions can involve bone with or without involvement of other structures in the head, including the brain, pituitary gland, eyes, orbital structures, other facial bones, and nasal sinuses.

As you look at the bone consider the following areas:

Vault

Base: anterior fossa, middle fossa, posterior fossa

Sella turcica

Mastoids, auditory canals

Nasal sinuses including frontal, ethmoid, sphenoid, maxillary

Orbits

This scan uses bone windows and shows an air fluid level in the sphenoid sinus, undisplaced linear fracture of the posterior left temporal bone with clouding of the mastoid air cells on that side, as well as pneumocephalus.
