Dr Moritz Heinrig Romberg
(1795 - 1873)
At the age of 22, Romberg wrote a classic on acrondroplosia or congenital rickets. He entered into neurologic studies soon after and with Peter Franc pioneered the study of the spinal cord.He worked in neuroanatomy and neuropathology. He also wrote on diverse subjects such as causalgia, corea, the convulsive state and facial paralysis. He also described the classic Romberg's sign and stated that no ataxic stands still with eyes shut. Romberg was known as a great clinician and a great teacher.
